  • New exhibit on the library building's history

We have a new exhibit featuring information, pictures, items, and advertisements from the time when the library building was part of Jönköpings Mekaniska Werkstad. Welcome in to take a look! Jönköpings Mekaniska Werkstad, founded in 1860, initially manufactured spare parts for the machines in the match factory. Over time, production evolved from various types of simpler castings to turbines, steam boilers, and even steamships. The library is located in JMW's foundry building, designed by architect Magnus Steendorff and constructed in 1914. The university took over the premises in 1994, and after renovation and expansion, the University Library opened its doors on August 11, 1997.In the exhibit, you can view old photographs from the JMW era, learn more about various details of the building, and also see advertisement clippings from the daily press of the past. You can also see more pictures and read more about the history of the building on the library's website.
